I recently learned about the Western Foothills Land Trust. They are currently in the process of developing some new trails. Today I joined the crew and helped cut part of a new trail.
Eight of us met on Sodom Road. It was Lee, Bob, Mary, Wes, Kevin, Mike, Sarah, and myself. (I hope I got everyone's names right.) And of course Madison, the hiking dog, was there to supervise.

After a brief introduction on the plan for this trail while snacking on some yummy pastries that Lee brought we were off. Mike led the way with his chainsaw while the rest of us worked on cutting and pruning smaller trees and branches.

We cut our way to a small but beautiful waterfall. The picture doesn't do it justice, but it is quite a lovely spot.

Madison was hot from supervising so she found the pool of water at the base of the waterfall quite refreshing.

We ending up getting about 4 tenths of a mile cut. We were no where near the pond yet, but a nice start to this project. In all fairness it was probably close to 10:30 before we actually started and we finished about 3:00 with a lunchbreak in the middle. So I guess we cleared about a tenth of a mile an hour. Fair progress I would say.

It was early yet so Madison and I climbed nearby Streaked Mountain before heading home. The next day I met my friend Jeremy and I climbed Mount Washington for the 37th time. Another fun weekend!
