June 19, 2010 Hike #2

After hiking Mount Moosilauke, I decided to try out a peak from New Hampshire's 52-with-a-view list, Black Mountain. Ironically, there are at least 4 mountains in the White Mountains that are named Black Mountain. I guess sometimes you can't decide between Black and White. There are two routes to the top. The southern route looked more scenic so I parked on Lime Kiln Road and began heading up the Chippewa Trail.

Normally, a big blowdown is a big pain, but this blowdown helped us cross a very muddy stream.

There were plenty of lookouts as I headed up the mountain.

And some wide open ledges.

Back in the woods one more time.

Just before the summit the Chippewa Trail and Black Mountain Trail intersect.

It looks like Madison is going to beat me to the top.

There were some cool patterns in the rocks.

It was a little tough deciding which point was the highest.
I walked the rocky ridge to make sure I hit the summit.

If there is a spot to take a cool bath, Madison will find it.
