May 31, 2010 Hike #1

This is the first of 3 short hikes today. Today's pictures didn't come out the best for two reasons, (1) I had accidentally changed a setting on my camera that affected the color, and (2) there is a forest fire in Canada. Smoke has been blowing down into northern New England making everything appear hazy.

This first hike is to Sugarloaf Mountain. It is on the New Hampshire 52-with-a-view list. This trail is also part of the Cohos Trail, New Hampshire's longest trail. I saw my first Cohos Trail marker

There's a small cottage near the trailhead.

A couple miles into the hike we came across the remains of a couple old ranger cabins. Jeremy reacts as if his house was just hit by a tornado.

The summit had some open ledges with great views but Jeremy and I were expecting a completely open summit with a 360° view. Judging by the photo below, it may have "confused" Jeremy a bit.

Here's a few shots from the summit.

We returned over the same route. I originally had planned to head south on the Cohos Trail but it was too nice of a day and I don't think that section had any views. Jeremy and I decided to see if we could find a way to climb Mount Forest which overlooks Berlin.
