I've got two weekends left of freelancing before hitting the Grid again in February. I got an email from a friend who wanted hike the Bigelow Peaks. I had never hiked them in winter so that sounded like a great idea. We hit the trail at 7:15. We followed the Appalachian Trail for about a mile before taking the well-groomed (for snowmobiles) Stratton Pond Road.

Then we reached the trail-head for the Fire Warden's Trail.

The last mile had all the elevation gain and all the trail breaking as well.

We reached the col between the two peaks. We decided to hit Avery Peak first.

On the summit of West Peak

This is always a great opportunity for a beautiful view. If you bring a pair of binoculars along on your trip this is the perfect moment to take advantage of them before you continue on your journey.

We returned over the same route, finishing at 4:15.
