December 5, 2009 Hike #2

After getting Carrigain in the morning, Madison and I headed up to Crawford Notch for hike #2. We were on the trail at 11:15. I couldn't believe how much more snow these peaks had than Carrigain had just a few miles down the road. Up we headed. I usually hike Tom, then Field, and then Willey and of course back to Willey and down. I decided to go about it a bit different today. I headed up towards Willey, but first stopped at Mount Avalon. I had only stopped there once before and it was too cloudy for a view. I got a pretty decent view today; but wouldn't you know it, I was rushing with the pictures from this hike. I meant too delete one off the disk and accidently deleted them all. Oops. Sorry, no pictures for this one.

Madison and I continued up to Field. The snow was deep enough for snowshoes but it had been barebooted so much, that snowshoes wouldn't have been practical. We went over and bagged Field and returned to Willey. Then over to Tom and back down. We finished about 4:15 and it was snowing pretty good. About an inch had accumulated on my car. I then had a "fun" drive home in the snow. Today's hike brought my December Grid from 11 up to 15. It's not my weakest month any more. That title now belongs to March.
