Just a quick hike today. South Turner is the last major peak in the park with a trail to it, that I need to climb.

I went over a couple bridges as well as some bog bridging

There are several viewpoints from Sandy Stream Pond. Here's a view of Katahdin.

Last night Gary Tompkins told me I would have a good chance of seeing a moose today.
"They like to hang out at Sandy Stream Pond," he said. He was right.

Another great view

Then I made my way up the mountain. I broke through treeline as I neared the summit.

It was a great morning and I had the entire mountain to myself

I headed down the mountain and took a longer route back. I continued on Sandy Stream Pond Trail

And then took the Russell Pond Trail back to the parking lot.

A few miles after leaving the park I went by this mural on a big rock.

Well, that's it. A quick hit and run of Baxter State Park. My time here this year was short but very enjoyable. I still have plenty of hiking coming up. The next three days I'll be in my favorite playground, the White Mountains.
