April 16, 2009 Stop #1
Although I finished the A.T., we still had lots to do on this trip. After visiting my dad and brother in Georgia, Lynn and I began the long journey home. Our first stop was in South Carolina to bag the highpoint. I love climbing mountains but for the lack of time, we drove almost to the top of this mountain. There's not much to write about here, but here's what we saw.

We had the parking lot to ourselves. Notice Lynn waving from behind our car.

The very top is gated, so we had a short walk.

The road splits at the top and goes around a small circle.
Here's the marker at the 3,560' summit.

It looked a little higher a few yards away so I walked over there where Lynn took my picture.

It was a beautiful day. I searched around for a view. This was the best I could do.

As I mentioned, you can hike up here if you wish.

That's about it. Not much here, but now we are off to scenic Mount Mitchell, the highpoint of North Carolina.
