September 27, 2008 Hike #1
With beautiful weather all week, I was pretty well bummed out the time the weekend came around. The forecast was for rain all day. The Owl's Head hike I had scheduled with Ed Hawkins was cancelled. To make it worse, I'm on call at work next weekend, so if I didn't go hiking this weekend, I'll have quite a wait before I could go again. So I figured despite the rain, I would go hiking anyway. These would be repeat peaks for me. Seeing these were repeat peaks and the fact that the weather wasn't so great, I decided not to bring my camera. I did however bring my canine companion, Madison. These would be new peaks for her.
Although these were not new peaks, I did go up via the Pine Bend Brook Trail which was a new trail for me. We had to cross the brook numerous times. Madison was quite happy about this seeing she loves the water. We passed two hikers near the summit of North Tripyramid. These were new peaks for one of the hikers. Shortly after, we reached the 4180' summit of North Tripyramid, #21 for Madison.
Middle Tripyramid was less than a mile away. I decided to ditch my pack in the woods and enjoy a little freedom hiking. The rain surprisingly held off. We reached the 4140' summit of Middle Tripyramid, #22 for Maddie. We then returned over the same route.
