Four of us met at the Stony Brook Trailhead: Ed Hawkins, Jim Towle, Becca Munroe, and myself. We drove up the road to cut off the lower portion of the trail and prevent a possible tricky water crossing. We started hiking about 9:20 am. The snow is quickly and finally melting. We started in just our boots, but around 2500 feet, we found we needed our snowshoes.
Although I had great company today, the weather was so-so. I did this exact same hike just a month ago with awesome weather, so I didn't see a need to take pictures. With this in mind, I gave myself the day off from picture taking, but couldn't resist taking one picture of Jim, Ed, and Becca on the summit.

We returned over the same route, finishing about 3:15 pm. This should be my last hike needing snowshoes this year. Although they will probably be needed in the Whites for two or three weeks, I won't be here. On May 17th, Lynn and I are off for our next section of the Appalachian Trail.
