March 31, 2007 Hike #2

After hiking up to Sandwich Dome, I decided to get in another hike. Great! It's a loop hike.

The snow is starting to melt, exposing some bog bridging.

After hiking a little more than a mile, the trail came out onto a large open ledge.

I left the ledge and continued up the trail, looking back to catch this view to the south.

Madison and I followed the trail, squeezing through some rocks.

Here's Maddie on the 2605' summit of Welch Mountain. Dickey Mountain is in the background.

I'll be coming down that rock ledge later.

Looking back at Welch Mountain

At some point I reached the 2734' foot summit of Dickey Mountain, but I'm not sure exactly when. The summit on Welch was obvious, but you can go up and over Dickey and not really know where the highest point is. My map was also showing a .2 mile side trail from here to a scenic view, but I never saw it. We headed down the west side of Dickey. Lots and lots of open ledges.

Madison and I made our way down one more open ledge.

The trail then goes back into the woods. We followed it for another mile or so before completing the loop. This was a great loop hike and judging by the amount of people on this trail, it's quite popular. I'd love to come back and try this trail on an autumn day with the leaves out.
