March 24, 2007 Hike #2

After returning from hike #1, I stopped briefly at my car to lighten my pack. I hadn't post-holed on hike #1 so I decided to leave my snowshoes behind along with a couple other things. Ah, that feels better. Lets go Madison. We headed off on the Unh Trail which is a loop trail. Notice that both directions point to Mount Hedgehog. I guess we'll go to Allen's Ledge first.

What do you know! Bare ground to walk on. I guess spring is coming.

We took a slight detour to Allen's Ledge.

From here, there is a great view to the east. I'm not exactly sure which mountain this is, possible Bear Mountain. The Moats are behind it and to the right.

Madison and I reached the 2532' foot summit. Here's a look back to Mount Potash.

The view of Mount Passaconaway was impressive.

Maddie and I began heading down the other side.

About a mile down from the summit I reached the east ledges which also offered great views. Madison and I stopped for a snack.

As I left the east ledges I came across one of the largest groups of hikers I've ever seen. There were probably about 30 in the group. When I made my way back to the parking lot, I wasn't surprised to find a bus parked there. Both Potash and Hedgehog Mountains are great mountains to hike. Give them a try. Now it's time to start the drive down Kancamagus Highway where I'll begin hike #3 for today.
