Give Me a 'Break'

Previous Entry Next Entry

October 11-20, 2006

Notice the title of today's entry. Also notice that break is in quotes. I got a break, but not the break I was looking for. I took my bicycle out for a quick ride and had a spill. The result was a broken arm up by the elbow. I knew I took my training wheels off too soon. Go figure, on Sunday I went on a 104 mile bike ride without incident, and on Wednesday I broke my arm just a quarter of a mile from home. I guess accidents really do happen closest to home. Would it help to move????

I went to the emergency room and they had a splint put on. The next day I went to the doctor who told me it would be two months before my arm completely recovered. About a week later I removed the splint as ordered by the doctor. It sure hurt to move it but I began following my new exercise routine. The doctor did say I could begin hiking. Doctors are so careful these days so they don't get sued. He said I could hike, but also added if I fell on my arm it wasn't his fault.

I missed one planned hiked because of my arm and decided I didn't want to miss any more so tomorrow Lynn and I are off to New Hampshire to try to complete one of two remaining NH Appalachian Trail sections.
