Pen Mar is a small town on the Pennsylvania/Maryland Border. Today's hike would start here. The pavilion shown at Pen Mar County Park is about 1/4 of a mile south of the PA/MD border. It was overcast the day I was there, but I have been there before and there is a great view from the pavilion.

Lynn hiked with me for a few minutes until I got into Pennsylvania. I went by Deer Lick run Shelter and later Lynn met me at Antietam Shelter. This shelter is near Antietam Creek. Further downstream this creek runs by Sharpsburg, Maryland. Near Sharpsburg, the Civil War Battle of Antietam took place. It was the bloodiest day in American history.

This shelter is only a couple of minutes from Old Forge Picnic Area. This picnic area is a great stop to meet someone if you are being crewed.

The next shelter up is Tumbling Run Shelter. It is a double shelter having two separate shelters. I found a little trail humor here as one of the shelters was labeled 'snoring' while the other is labeled 'non-snoring.'
At the top of the next peak, I took a short blue blazed trail up to Chimney Rocks. The rocks were interesting and there was probably an excellent view from here but I was clouded in again.
Next I headed up to Rocky Mountain. Snoopy was unsure if this was the right way.

I saw some unique features like a goalpost shaped tree . . .
and a stack of rocks that looked like if you breathed too hard they would fall down. This reminded me of the game 'Jenga' where you pull out the blocks and try not to knock down the tower.

On Rocky Mountain I decided to skip the side trail to the shelter since I had already seen three today. I ended my hike by entering into the southern end of Caledonia State Park where I met Lynn.
