Well Lynn dropped Snoopy and me off at Clarks Valley. I began the 700 foot climb up Peters Mountain. The map is showing eleven scenic overlooks, unfortunately, it is raining and it looks like I will miss them all. I made my way to Peters Shelter. This was supposed to be a very nice shelter. When I got there, I thought, "This is it." It was extremely small with only room for a couple of hikers. Then I heard voices. I turned and through the fog I could see a much bigger shelter. Ahuh, that must be it. It was very nice with two levels. Unfortunately my picture of it did not come out that well. There were two men who had hiked in for the weekend.
"I am amazed how the trail clubs can build these shelters out in the middle of no where," I said.
"There are some pictures of them building it over there," one of them said.
I looked on the wall and saw pictures of the crew carrying in the large wooden beams one at a time. I had hiked 6.5 miles to get here. There are side trails that would considerably shorten this, but I am sure it was still a lot of work just to get the material to the work site.
With the weather the way it was, there was not much to see until I got to Clarks Ferry Shelter which was only 90 yards off the trail.

I made my way down the west side of Peters Mountain to the valley below. I had been in the woods all day with no sign of civilization and all of a sudden without warning, I step out onto three sets of active railroad tracks. In my opinion, this is one of the most dangerous places on the entire trail. Take extra care here, especially if you are a sobo. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
I made my way across the Susquehanna River on the very long Clarks Ferry Bridge . ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Right after the Susquehanna River is the much smaller Juniata River.

I only had to wait about five minutes when Lynn picked me up.
